A relaxing massage in Cartagena: my experience

Tom, a quick message to remember you of our private session tomorrow.

I read the message and smile. Yamila knows it’s essential to send a reminder message to travelers on vacation.

Her great reviews on the internet made me want to discover this technique that mixes acupressure points, meditations, and relaxing massages.

For this experience, she likes to welcome the guests in her apartment. It allows her to be sure that she can practice in a clean and soothing place.

As soon as I step out of the door, I jump into another universe —adíos Cartagena and Colombia.

Green plants are everywhere, a sweet smell reaches my nostrils, and a mantra song accompanied by the sound of chimes is on.

I see a futon in the center of the room. It is waiting for me.

Yamila takes the time to explain to me what is going to happen. For this type of massage to work, a connection is necessary between the massage therapist and the person being massaged. It requires trust.

She does the stretches and pressure points. I focus on my breathing.

I lie on my stomach, my body more relaxed than a marshmallow — or at least I try to.

I close my eyes.

Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale.

Yamila starts with the lower back. She presses her fists along my spine to ease the tension in my muscles. Then she moves on to the forearms. Her fingers slide along my skin, putting pressure on the tendons.

My upper body is relaxed enough. It’s time to move on to stretching.

Yamila grabs my wrists and uses the weight of her body to make me bend my back. This allows me to open my rib cage as much as possible. Then she places her feet on my shoulder blades to apply more pressure and stretch them deeply.

Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale.

Distending the neck, stretching the spine, massage of the face, pressure points on the soles of the feet…

The session goes on for 90 minutes. Yamila focuses on each part of the body, alternating pressure, stretching, meditation, and massage.

Tom, it’s time to move your toes and fingers slowly. Then, sit down when you’re ready.

What! The 90 minutes are already over? Can I go back in time?

I feel calm. My mind is free. I now understand why Yamila associates this massage with meditation.

My short description does not do justice to Yamila’s massage therapy. Check out my photo session and then the 2nd part of this post to decide if you want to do it.

Why booking this massage therapy in Cartagena

You’re maybe wondering what type of massage therapy this is.

Ayurveda Yoga Massage

Massage cartagena

Ayurveda Yoga Massage is a massage technique that comes from India. Its creator, Kusum Modak, wished to combine the benefits of the traditional Ayurvedic Abhyangam massage and some yoga postures.

The objective goes far beyond a pleasant massage. It is about finding a balance between body and mind.

Through medicinal oils (aromatherapy), deep tissue massage, meditation, and stretching, Yamila can treat the aches and pains of the body.

It also reduces stress and improves your well-being. You feel like a new person – like a refreshing cold shower after sport, but better.

Yamila is not just any massage therapists

Women & men can order a massage from Yamila

The world of massage therapists is quite vast; each one has his technique and his diploma posted on the wall. It is not easy to find the right massage service.

To learn from the best, Yamila made several extended trips to India. It allowed her to meet her yogi master Abhishek Anand (a disciple of the founder of this technique).

Her gentle voice and kindness will immediately put you at ease – remember that this is essential for this type of massage.

Moreover, her hands radiate positive energy that does not leave travelers indifferent. Here is what they say about Yamila.

It’s the perfect wellness experience for Cartagena

Massage cartagena

You probably come to Cartagena to rest and reduce the stress of everyday life.

Why not begin your trip with Yamila’s massage? It will help you get off to a good start and enjoy your trip to Colombia even more!

There are tons of massage services in Cartagena

What kind of massage are you looking for in Cartagena?

Some travelers like to get a massage in el totumo mud volcano or on the beach. This is more like kneading dough than a deep tissue massage.

Others prefer to book a private session through their hotel. The problem is that they will arrange the massage that offers the highest commission.

If you stay in one of the iconic luxury hotels in Cartagena, there may be a spa.

  • Spa Bastion Luxury hotel
  • Aurum Spa by Casa San Agustín
  • Spa Sofitel Santa Clara

The setting will be beautiful, but the prices will be much higher. And you probably won’t get a full body massage.

It is a complete massage: 90 min of relaxation

Massage cartagena

Yamila wants to focus on all parts of your body, from your feet to your head. That’s why the massage lasts 90 minutes.

I can’t just focus on where the client is in pain. In a body, everything is connected.

I especially loved the feet and face!
