We have been traveling to Colombia since 2015. We explored Los Llanos for 15 days to find the best experiences.
Are these experiences a good fit for you?
Find out why!
Yopal is the best choice to discover the llanera culture and see many animals. Even though the town is easy to get to, you then have to choose the nature reserves best suited to what you are looking for, contact them and then arrange private transportation to get there. In summary, there is a lot to consider to have a successful experience in Los Llanos, and if you want to be in the best of moods, the safest way is through Laura. N0 worries and more free time.

Why do we love Laura’s Agency

Laura understands that an agency’s services are not limited to driving you from point A to point B. You will travel with qualified guides and get useful equipment such as binoculars, boots, and excellent vehicles.
You don’t necessarily need assistance to visit the hatos near Yopal. It’s a different story when it comes to visiting the more remote areas. With Laura, you can take charter flights or follow unsuspected paths by jeep to discover extraordinary places.
Laura is also the head of an NGO that aims to protect Los Llanos by helping local actors develop a sustainable and responsible tourism offer (in addition to many conservation programs). Your money will directly benefit the local economy and the environment.
Use our online form to say what you like and plan your experience with Laura. She will confirm prices, date departures, and availability. The tours below are just examples. You can adapt everything to your liking.
Altagracia comprises more than 15 natural reserves and breathtaking wildlife (anacondas, capybaras, giant anteaters, …). It is the ideal place to observe many birds, make a boat trip on the lagoon, observe superb sunsets, and share the daily life of an adorable Llanero family. It’s a 6-h jeep drive from Yopal or a short charter flight. I recommend 4 days.
Are you looking for a specific animal to observe? Would you like to visit several hatos for horseback riding or hiking? Tell Laura what appeals to you the most. She will organize an expedition to the most famous hatos, such as La Aurora (for the jaguar) and Encanto de Guanapalo (lots of capybaras). Or other ones that few people know about! These tours are usually 3 or 4 days long.
Besides the endemic species present in the region, the llanos also act as a restaurant for migratory birds. The endless plains are perfect for easily observing them and taking great pictures. Laura is an avid birdwatcher and will be able to put together the perfect program for you.
In addition to the knowledge of the guides and hatos owners, you can visit cultural sites to learn more about the llanera culture. The best place to visit is the Museo del Llanerazo, where you can talk to a Seco, a 100% authentic llanero who has decided to live like his ancestors.
Prices change depending on the number of travelers, the choice of hatos, the length of stay, and the type of experiences chosen.
Laura sometimes organizes group tours during a 3-day weekend in Colombia (some Mondays are holidays) to reduce costs. However, you will not be able to customize your tour and will have to adapt to the weaker group members. For this reason, I suggest a private tour. It is such a beautiful destination that you don’t want to share it with other travelers 😀
The tours are expensive because the best places are far away, and the private transport companies in the area offer high rates because of the presence of oil companies.
Here is a rough price list to give you an idea of the budget needed. Laura will confirm the prices once she has spoken with you.
Approximately 450 USD /pers for a 3-day trip to the hatos near Yopal—if it is a group of 3 people.
Approximately 600 –650 USD /pers for a 4-day trip to the hatos far away from Yopal—if it is a group of 3 people.
Emergency assistance insurance.
Bilingual guides (+ 350,000COP/day), tips, and beers aren’t included.
Reserve your spot in advance
The hatos and nature reserves have only a few rooms, and they quickly become fully booked, especially during the high season (when there are the most animals to see).
Super recommend. Not only are they very well organized, but Laura and her team are very warm and kind. Everything went according to planning, with time to relax and to be active (we chose 6 days, five nights plan). My son, five years old, loved it. We were pampered by the people in the Hatos and in El Llanerazo! We will certainly come back.
5/5 on Tripadvisor
We approached Laura on very short notice to make arrangements for our visit to the Llanos. We had specific bird targets we needed for our trip, and based on our requirements, Laura presented us with not one but three package deals, providing ample explanations and information for each package. We enjoyed our trip and saw not one but two anteater species. At the end of our tour package, we turned to Laura again for information on an important bird target. Within the hour, Laura presented us with an excellent and suitable solution that involved her pulling strings from her network and friend.
