Whales in the wild

Watch these giant cetaceans parade through the ocean and stay in a unique setting between jungle and sea.

Wake to the sounds of birds and the sea. The ocean calls you to witness the humpback whales. From the shore or a boat, experience the awe as these majestic marine mammals leap into the air. In this remote location, relish the ambiance of the Pacific coast, with its expansive, deserted black sand beaches on one side and impenetrable jungle on the other.

Roadmap

4 Days

  • Day 1 Nuqui > Ecolodge in Guachalito | ~40min by boat
  • Days 2 and 3 Organize your time and activities according to your desires
  • Day 4 Ecolodge in Guachalito > Nuqui | ~40min by boat

What to expect

A person from the ecolodge will be waiting for you upon your arrival at Nuqui Airport. After a 40-minute boat ride, you’ll disembark on a deserted beach and discover the environment where you’ll be staying.

Flower-lined pathways connect the various cabins that make up the ecolodge. Built in a traditional manner, they blend perfectly with the surroundings. On one side, a lush forest, and on the other, the beach and then the ocean.

Located in the Guachalito area, this establishment is notably isolated, far from its neighbors. In this fantastic natural setting, you'll be able to experience unforgettable moments.

Humpback whales can be observed by boat, but you can also spot them from the shore. This spectacle is always fascinating and moving. Since the area is not heavily visited, you have the privilege of following these mammals with very few boats around.

Whales are not the only tourist attraction in the area. Walks along the vast black sand beaches, bordered by a verdant jungle and the blue ocean, should not leave you indifferent.

Your host will connect you with locals to organize other activities that interest you.

Around the ecolodge, you can: surf, discover waterfalls, observe wildlife, explore the jungle in search of brightly colored frogs, plan a kayaking session, or arrange an introduction to traditional fishing.

Venturing a bit further, discover the village of Termales and its hot springs, the mangroves of Coqui with their culinary specialties, or the Rio Jovi, with its tranquility and trees shading the river.
