Pozo Azul in Minca: A Step by Step guide

I love Minca in Colombia. It’s a good break after many beach sessions, red faces burnt from the sun, and sweet cocktails. Trees and birds are dancing around you – I guess they dance even better if you’re high or drunk – and you can explore Pozo Azul in Minca!

Yes, you will swim in freshwater again! Say goodbye to your old salty cracked skin.

I’ve been there three times. And every time, I don’t remember how to get there. Fortunately, Jay from Casa Loma – I love this hostel – is always here to help me.

And today, I’m your “Jay”!

Let’s find out step by step how to get to Pozo Azul in Minca

More than 10,000 travelers have already used our Colombia travel guide

I’ve been exploring Colombia since 2015 and put all my knowledge into one E-book. It’s free and accessible now. 👇

Ok, let’s say the church is the center. Ok?

With the church in your back, go down the street 20m. You should have a bar in front of you, some moto-taxi on your right and a bridge on your left.

Now, there are two solutions to get to Pozo Azul.

Option 1 – A Moto taxi to get to Pozo Azul in Minca

You can ask one of the many boys on your right. Some of them seem to have 15 years old, but they probably drive since they are 11 years old. Don’t worry, the journey will be smooth, and those little guys know what they do.

Time: 10 min

Price: Around 10 000 COP

Option 2: Use your legs to get to Pozo Azul in Minca

Awesome, you’re motivated to climb mountains and kill bears with your bare hands to walk a little. The path is not hard, a little steep and easy to follow.

Ok, it’s not a very exciting trail either, I don’t want to lie to you. But on both sides, leafy trees offer partial shade, and you will breathe some fresh air.

During 30 min, follow the path until you notice the sign Pozo Azul Minca and turn left. You should pass in front of a restaurant. Walk 10 min more and turn right once you arrive at the hotel Pozo Azul Minca.

Time: 40 – 45 min

There are two pools in Pozo Azul in Minca, and you will just have to “climb” a little to get access to the next one. Around the two basins, there are not many spaces to lay down and take a sunbath.

But, the 2nd pool is deep enough so you can jump from the rocks above (3-4m).

I don’t know you, but I love to walk up the rivers and look for secret spots with nobody around. Fortunately, it’s the case with the Pozo Azul. After the 2nd pool, continue to explore. It takes 10 min to arrive at the end of this “secret” path. You will discover one last basin.

Things To Know About Pozo Azul in Minca

Pozo Azul in Minca
My best profile – Behind the 2nd pool

You imagine arriving in fantastic natural swimming pools only for yourself but *BIM*, There are already 20 Colombians. Why? It’s a Sunday or a Public Holiday.

Tip 1: If you can, avoid the weekends and public holidays. Also, none of them is going further than the 2nd pool. So walk a little if you want to be alone

At home, you live in a big city. And last week, you saw your first cow. Therefore, you’re not tempted to walk barefoot in nature with potential weird insects.

Tip 2: Walk to Pozo Azul with your trainers instead of your flip-flop. Slippery rocks are not your friends.

My 2 cents about Pozo Azul in Minca

Pozo Azul in Minca is a fun half-day activity, and you should definitively wander after the 2nd pool. The path is simple to follow, and there are some restaurants on the way. However, don’t except a crystalline blue and warm water 😉
